"Ctein's work is extraordinary. I can't recommend it highly enough." ~ Tee A. Corinne

The original photograph, a self-portrait of the photographer, was made in 1975. Unfortunately it was processed through one of those mail-order outfits that produced negative prints and duplicate slides at the same time. Such slides were made on impermanent film stock; sadly, that's the only version of the photograph that survived. After a quarter-century it has lost a considerable amount of cyan and yellow dye and developed an overall stain, rendering it a nearly-monochrome purple.

Because of the neutral whites and critical skin tones, this original demanded meticulous tone and color restoration. Fortunately, the fading was extremely uniform, and the slide was in very clean condition, so there was very little local repair work to do.

A complete description of how I performed this restoration is in my book, Digital Restoration From Start to Finish.

(Time to restore: approximately four hours.)
